During installation PSIcapture sets the appropriate permissions on the registry keys used by the product. In some cases, typically due to previous permissions changes, this operation will fail with the following error message:
An error occurred setting permissions on registry keys used by the product. Installation will continue, however you should contact support before using the application.
This article will provide step by step instructions for correcting this problem.
Editing the Registry
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to re-install your operating system. PSIGEN cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using the Registry Editor incorrectly. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.
Open the Registry Editor
Click on the Windows Start menu and select the "Run..." command. Alternatively you may press the Windows Key + R.
In the Run dialog window, enter "regedit" (without quotes) and click OK.
Locate the Registry Key to Modify
If the operating system in use is a 32 bit operating system, the key to edit will be:
Once you have located the appropriate key, right click on the node in the left pane, as shown in the image below; and select Permissions.
Grant Full Control to Users
PSIcapture requires that all users of the application have Full Control access granted to the selected key.
You grant the required access by selecting the Users group, checking the Full Control check box, and clicking the OK button as shown in the following screen shot.
Take Ownership of a Registry Key
If you receive an error when granting permissions to the Users group you should take ownership of the registry key and then retry the grant operation again.
Open the Advanced Permissions Dialog
To take ownership of the key, click on the Advanced button as shown in the following screen shot:
Modify the Owner
Select the Owner tab, and then select currently logged in user, or the a group that contains the currently logged in user. Typically this will be an Administrator or member of the Administrators group. If the user or group does not appear in the list, select the Other Users button and locate the user.
Once the user is selected check the box to "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects".
